This is a selection of family pictures featuring many of the people that make up the essence of this book. Family pictures are precious to everyone; they help us remember loved ones, and through them, we can re-live happy events from the past. For Cuban-Americans, family pictures hold a special meaning because most of us had to leave them behind. It wasn’t until later, when travel restrictions were relaxed, that our family, like many, took the opportunity to recuperate treasured memories that we thought had been lost forever.
